Data We Collect
Before you start, we want to be clear about what data ChinaHop collects and why.
What we collect
- Account information: your email address, used to sign in and recover your account. Your password is stored only in hashed form; we cannot see it.
- Device information: your phone model (for example "iPhone 13"), used to show and manage your device slots under My Devices.
- Technical information needed to connect: the VPN public key generated for this device, its assigned internal address, and the time of your first connection (used to calculate the free trial).
- Subscription status: whether you are subscribed and when it expires. Payments are handled by Apple or the payment provider; we do not store your card details.
- Trial eligibility: we use Apple's DeviceCheck service to check whether this device has already used a free trial. This does not give us any identifier for your device.
- Usage volume: the total amount of data each device uploads and downloads through the VPN (summarized by hour) and the time of its most recent connection, used to operate the service and troubleshoot problems. We only count totals; we do not record which websites or content you access.
- Support requests: what you write under "Submit a Request" and any screenshots you attach, together with your app version, iOS version, and phone model, are sent to our support mailbox so we can reply and resolve the issue.
What we do not collect
- We do not log the websites, apps, or content you access through the VPN.
- We do not read your location (the app does not use location permission), contacts, photos, or other personal content.
- We do not sell your data or use it for ad tracking.
Third-party services
- The "Your IP" and approximate location shown on the home screen map come from the IP lookup service ipinfo.io. When the app sends that request, the service sees your public IP address.
- Once the VPN connects, the VPN server sees your public IP address. This is required to establish the connection.
- Subscriptions are bought through Apple's in-app purchase, and the subscription management service RevenueCat keeps track of purchase status. RevenueCat receives your account ID (a random string that does not contain your email), your purchase history, and technical information such as your IP address and iOS version when the app connects to it.
- Emails we send you (such as password reset codes) are delivered through the email provider Resend, which processes your email address and the content of those emails.
Your rights
You can delete your account at any time from the Account tab. Your account and all device data are then permanently erased. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
